Energy Performance Certificates

Energy Footprint provides Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) on a national basis for residential, commercial, and public buildings in accordance with the EU’s Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD).  EPCs have been introduced to help improve the energy efficiency of buildings as part of a series of measures being introduced across Europe to reflect legislation which will help cut buildings’ carbon emissions and tackle climate change.

EPCs are required by law whenever a building (residential or commercial) is built, sold or rented out. The certificate provides ‘A’ to ‘G’ ratings for the building in terms of both energy efficiency and environmental impact, with ‘A’ being the best and ‘G’ being the worst.  It also provides a report on the recommendations for improvement and will give an indication of the expected savings to be made.

Public buildings – for example town halls, libraries, hospitals – are required to display certificates, known as Display Energy Certificates (DECs) which show the energy performance of the building based on its actual annual energy consumption and the CO2 emissions that result from that energy use. The DEC is accompanied by an advisory report containing recommendations for improvement of the energy performance of the building.

An EPC or DEC must be produced by an accredited Energy Assessor.  Energy Footprint has a wealth of experience providing EPCs and DECs in both the public and private sectors.
